The author ends up buying his/her books and trying to sell them elsewhere.Maya Reynoldshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12791278987339976101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16743003.post-1160134139164869752006-10-06T04:28:00.000-07:002006-10-06T04:28:00.000-07:00I think Lulu is entirely justified in describing t...I think Lulu is entirely justified in describing themselves as "free" because they author doesn't need to pay anything, ever.

Unless, of course, he buys copies of his own book. Which is where Lulu probably makes 90% of it's money.

But hypotetically, if an author 'published' their book via Lulu, they could sell copies of it without ever having to pay a penny. The buyer of the book picks up all of the costs - exactly as happens with 'real' publishing houses.

Lulu can be described as a 'vanity' press only in that it allows people to publish books that would not otherwise have been put to print. What's normally implied by the term 'vanity press' though is the payment of a writer to see his book published. Lulu doesn't require that.

I did post two blogs about Lulu.

http://rolandhulme.blogspot.com/2006/09/lulu-not-annoying-singer.html

http://rolandhulme.blogspot.com/2006/09/eddy-on-demand.html

Great blog, by the way.Roland Hulmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08979437320446956987noreply@blogger.com
