Birthday Wishes

The sun did not shine.
It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house
All that cold, cold, wet day.

I sat there with Sally.
We sat there, we two.
And I said, "How I wish
We had something to do."

So starts one of the most beloved of all children's classics. The Cat in the Hat (TCITH) celebrated its fiftieth birthday this week.

According to Wikipedia, TCINH is the ninth best-selling children's book in the United States (up until 2000).

Do something nice for literacy. Random House (RH) has two initiatives to celebrate the Cat's birthday. Send the Cat a birthday card, and RH will donate a child's book to literacy. Additionally, for every RH child's book purchased between now and May 1, RH will donate a child's book to the literacy movement. Go here to find the rules for both programs.

Happy Birthday, Cat!
