"Maniac" was one of two Oscar-nominated songs for 1984 from the film Flashdance. The other one, the Flashdance theme--"What a Feeling"--won the best original song category.
Just for fun--which I need--here is the commercial as well as both the songs from Flashdance in one video.
Enjoy.
In the unlikely event that you don't know the Flashdance story, it's about a young Pittsburgh welder named Alex Owens who also works as an exotic dancer. Her dream is to be admitted to a prestigious dance company. "Maniac" is a song she practices for her act at the nightclub. "What a Feeling" is the song she performs for the five judges of the school. She incorporates break dance moves--the street dancing that began in the South Bronx in the '70s.

I saw that commercial and thought it was a hoot. I'm old enough to have seen "Flashdance" when it first came out, and recognized it in a flash (ha!) as soon as the commercial started.
Best of luck with the operation on Friday. Keep us posted.
The commercial is great. The man mimics those Flashdance moves well.
I can't remember who the actress was, but didn't she misrepresent herself as the actual dancer? The last time I saw her was, I think, as a secondary jury member in "Runaway Jury." Rising star, falling star.
Thanks for the good wishes, Josephine. the surgery has now been delayed until Tuesday morning.
Srephen: Jennifer Beals was a Yale student. I don't know that she actively misrepresented herself, but she did take a big hit when it was revealed she didn't do her own dancing.
Would Tom Cruise take a hit for not doing his stunts?
She was most recently seen on cable on The L Word.
You've gone through a lot this year, it seems. I hope your hand surgery goes well and you have a fresh start for the new year.
